LO1 analysis of short-film conventions
Short films are social realist, they are kitchen sink dramas this means that narratives and representations focus on the working class and the underclasses. About a girl Dir. Brian Percival (2001) At the start of the short film we can hear some diegetic sounds as we can see that the character is reacting to it by dancing. The use of camera work in the opening shot show a silhouette of a young teen. After an edited transition we see a clip of the young teen walking down a street talking to the camera but the transition is sharp and snappy as it goes straight towards the next scene. The camerawork is very scattery and not smooth it is like you are walking with the girl. We can see by the way she talks and the areas she is in that she is a part of the lower class. The narrative of this short film is a girl who lives in a low class areas with negligent parents and how she has gotten good at hiding things from her parents. We can see the contrast between her dreams and her current life...
